Average number of parliamentary events requiring protective services per day

2018-2019 Budget

The 2018-2019 Main Estimates for the Parliamentary Protective Service total $91.1 million.

The Service employs approximately 600  people, including both operational and non-operational staff, and excluding members of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police who are on assignment with the Service. Since it was established in June 2015 as a parliamentary entity, the Service has dedicated its resources and efforts to ensure the interoperability of the former parliamentary security groups.

We have achieved interoperability in a number of sectors, such as intelligence, training, event planning and operational communications. The Service has begun stabilizing its administration and continues to make security enhancements on Parliament Hill and within the Parliamentary Precinct to ensure the safety and security of the Parliament of Canada.

Committee appearances The Speakers of the Senate and the House of Commons must provide an estimate of the sums required to pay the expenditures of the Service before each fiscal year to the President of the Treasury Board, who must in turn lay it before the House of Commons with the estimates of the government for the fiscal year.
